It’s Showtime!

A busy week this week – especially for children in our Oak Class.

They have been working hard in their rehearsals for Moana, both the Year 5 and Year 6 have spent time up at Calder High School and on Tuesday some of the Oak children took part in a Cross -Trust maths competition involving all five schools in the Trust which took place here (we came second).

Talking of Moana, attached to this Dojo post (and also coming home tonight as a hard copy) are letters regarding Moana tickets.

The sale window opens for Oak class parents from Monday next week whilst for the other classes in school it opens on Monday 24th.

On Monday you received a letter from the new Executive Headteacher from September, Mrs Pether, introducing herself and explaining the class organisation and class teachers for next year.

I know that some of you have noticed that the letter did not mention Mr Longstaff.

Mr Longstaff will be leaving Heptonstall School at the end of the summer term.

I am sure you all appreciate that – as is right and as you would expect - any decisions taken for the school going forward from September are no longer mine.

I personally am sorry that Mr Longstaff will be leaving Heptonstall. I know the children have enjoyed having him, he has worked very well amongst our team of colleagues and he has done a really good job. He has been a valued member of our Heptonstall family.

I know you will join with me in wishing him well in his future teaching career and for the future.

I have not met Miss Whitwam who will be joining the school in September but I wish her many happy and successful years here. I understand that she will be in school to meet the children on our “Moving –up” morning which this year is on Friday 5th July.

The 5th July is also our PFA “Country-themed” Summer Fair (see last week’s Friday Dojo for more details). On this day the children can get “their country on” all day and come dressed and cowboys and cowgirls all day (or just in non-uniform!)

Finally a reminder that on Tuesday next week it is our Sports Afternoon. Gates (top pedestrian gate next to the car park only please) will open at 1.15pm with the event starting at 1.30pm. At present the forecast for next Tuesday is for it to be reasonably dry.

We will make a decision by 11am on Tuesday next week based on the condition of the field and the forecast for the afternoon about whether to go ahead or not and this will be communicated to you via Dojo. IF we are unable to do it next Tuesday afternoon then a back –up date is Tuesday 2nd July. Unfortunately if this date too is rained off the school diary is so full for the last few weeks of term that we will have to leave it this year. Hopefully that will not happen!

I hope you all have a good weekend and, for those of you that like football, enjoy the inevitable tedium of watching England probably grinding out a 89th minute 1- 0 victory against Serbia in the first of their matches in this year’s Euros. It will prepare us well for the crushing disappointment of getting knocked out on penalties in the quarter finals.

Hopefully we will have our “quiet cobbles” back by Monday too.

With my best wishes,

David Perrin
