Whole School Fun!
What an absolutely glorious day we had yesterday at Gulliver’s World. I was so pleased that it went so well – the children have been looking forward to it all week with an ever increasing sense of anticipation and excitement and talking to some of you outside yesterday morning I understand that some of them were up rather early (to say the least!) bursting to go yesterday morning.
Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who worked hard all day to keep the children safe, happy and having a great time.
The staff at Gulliver’s World were great too – every ride operator we had was so cheerful and friendly (not always the case at theme parks!)
Thank you again too to the PFA who funded the cost of the coach which made the trip very affordable for all.
Even the weather “played nice” for us
After I had had my tea last night, I was reflecting on what a lovely visit it had been and I realised that, after many many years of doing them, that was my last ever trip out with children on a coach (I still have a few to do driving a minibus). What a lovely way to finish.
I hope the “Whole School Trip” is now a tradition of the school that will last long past my time at the helm.
If your children want to go back with you to experience the rides over the summer, Gulliver’s World gave us tickets which allow children one free entry until the end of September this year (of course any adults have to pay!). Your children will bring these home tonight.
Going back to the PFA…
…on my last Dojo before the half term holiday I mentioned that the Summer Fair will be on Friday 5th July. I can now give you a few more details.
It will begin at 3.00pm with a display of Mayplole dancing by our Year 3 and 4 children. Following this we hope you will all stay to enjoy the rest of the Fair. It will go on until 6pm.
A poster is attached to this Dojo. In a “nod” to my impending retirement I am extremely touched that the PFA has decided to make the theme of the Fair a “Country and Western” one. Very thoughtful indeed.
The PFA would love volunteers for the Fair so if anyone can help on the day at all or if they have any decorations or ideas to help with the event they can message Jocasta on 07919561478 or email Pfaheptonstall@gmail.com.
Before the Fair another summer term tradition is Sports afternoon. This is on Tuesday 18th June and will begin just after 1.15pm. Entrance will only be via the pedestrian gate next to the school car park. It will be opened once the children have gone in after lunch. Please bring your own chairs/blankets!
You may, like myself, have noticed that on Lee Wood Road by the traffic lights there are signs saying it will be closed on Monday.
I don’t know who is undertaking the closure but I do wish these companies would inform school of such matters well in advance so we can give you accurate information. I can only assume that traffic will be diverted up and down through the village making the walk to and from school more hazardous for you all.
The signs do not give a time of closure so I don’t know if it will be in place before school on Monday or not.
On Monday morning we will open the gate at the side of the playground that leads onto the stone path that leads up between the fields and school from along Northgate so you can, if you want to avoid the traffic, come up to school via that route (and do the same at the end of day).
If you are coming from the other end then, if you wish you can come through the side gate next to the car park and walk down the side of the field.
Then, for both of the above routes walk down the slope to the left of the hall fire doors as you look at them from outside and it will bring you to the glass tunnel corridor doors at the opposite side that you usually use. These will be opened at 8.45am as well as the other normal doors. We will also let children out of these doors if that is where we see you waiting at 3.30pm.
Children in Oak Class can also use these doors on Monday if you think it is safer for them.
Please tell your children to take extra care if they are “Oak class walkers”. We will send them up the side of the field at the end of the day rather than let them walk all the way up the cobbles.
The next Good Work Assembly (and the final one for this school year) is next Friday, 14th June at 2.45pm.
Finally, I am sure, like me, many of you have been incredibly moved by the scenes and stories of the D-Day veterans this week.
It is important, isn’t it, to be reminded that the freedoms we have today we owe to the heroes of 80 years ago, many who gave all.
Lest We Forget.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Best wishes,
David Perrin
